It's A Nice Friday!

The weather has been surprising pretty nice the past two days, well Iceland nice. I am really not the one who should be talking about the weather because the most I ever feel outside is walking to and from the car twice a day, unless we have to go to the store. But our daylight is getting longer and longer each day. The summers are way better here then in the winters. Atleast you get some light. Its not like it gets totally dark in the winter, its just so gloomy.

Our dinner thing last night went ok. We went with our neighbors. But they tried to pack way to many people in this small room and small room with lots of people isn't Davids thing. So we were only there about an hour. They had really good food though.

I am not sure if I had mentioned it or not, but we are hoping to try and plan a visit home sometime in August after we get settled in Germany. It would be so nice to be back in Minnesota for the summer and plus my mom would be off of work then, so hopefully our plans work out.

Miss You All and Have a Great Weekend!

End Of June

We now think we will be leaving Iceland at the end of June which is ok with us. I mean the sooner the better, but there is so much paper work David has to take care of it is better we get the extra weeks and plus we get the extra month of COLA...extra money is always a plus. We wont get our orders until I get medically cleared to go to Germany. Each over seas base we go to I have to get cleared because I have seizures. It shouldn't be a problem to get me cleared because they have great hospitals over in Germany and if I got cleared to go to Turkey and here, I will have no problem to get to Germany.

Tonight we are going to an Airforce dinner. It is a free dinner for everyone in the Airforce and they are giving away prizes. I am sure we wont win anything, because we don't have that kind of luck. The last time we were somewhere where they were giving away prizes we won the "Risk Star Wars Board Game"... how nerdy is that! And the only reason we won anything is because everyone won something. All of our friends were winning dvd players and video cameras. So we know our luck isn't so hot!

David has been playing tons of basketball lately...the one sport he wasn't good at, he is now good at. Work has been slow lately actually. My boss has been out with a knee injury for the last week or so. I finally got in for a hair cut next week, that should hold me over until we get to come home.

Take care and we miss you all!!

Can You Believe It

I can't hardly believe that sometime this week David would have been deploying to Iraq if the base hadn't decided to close. This time came up so fast. We got so lucky with this base closing. Ofcourse, David not having to deploye anymore, we get to leave Iceland and now we are going to Germany, a new and exciting spot to live. Its so wierd to think about him being gone for 6 months. What would I be feeling right now? What would he be feeling right now? I am sure I would have been crying everyday for the past week or so. We'd be getting ready for him to leave. I am sure he would have left me a huge list of all the things I had to take care of while he was gone...the phone bill, insurance, internet bill, ect. I know he still might have the chance to deploye, but for now we are just taking it day by day.

This morning we had a small blizzard. Can't it just stop snowing here!

I Figured It Out

Yesterday I had my second pottery class. I must say it went a lot better then I thought it would and I really didn't think I was going to like doing pottery on the wheel, but it was a lot of fun. It took me forever to figure it out at first. This ball of clay just kept spinning and I wasn't to sure how to start to make it turn it into anything that looked like any sort of bowl. Everyone else made it look so easy. But finally after 45 minutes of nothing, I finally had a break through. I wasn't even sure how I made it start to turn into a bowl, but I was pretty excited. My bowl started out to be pretty big, but once I was done I ended up with a little tea cup sized bowl. And I even had time to do another piece on the wheel. That piece turned out a little better. We have 5 more classes left...so by the end maybe I will be an expert on the wheel.

David had a guys night last night with everyone from his work. So I dyed my hair, I wanted it to go lighter, but some how it turned out darker. I am sure I will mess with it again today. Also while David was gone I went down to our neighbor Jessica's place and hung out for a few hours. Finally started to watch "Sex and the City." Everyone always talks about how good that show is. Jessica let me borrow the first season, so I am sure I will finish it this week.

We still don't have a date on when we will be leaving, but we think the beginning of June.

Miss You All....XOXO

Look What I Made

Here are some pictures of the ceramics I have been making the past weeks. Sorry the pictures went in sideways, but you can still tell what they are so that is all that matters. I made a Tall, Medium and Small Vase and also a Salsa Bowl.
This is my tallest vase...I tried to make them all a different color, but for them all to go together. As you can see that really didn't work out to well.
My Medium vase is really dark. I like this one the best.
And my smallest vase and my tallest vase almost look the same. When I was picking out the paint it looked a lot different, but oh well.

My salsa bowl turned out pretty good. I only wished I would have painted the inside too. Now we just have to eat salsa out of it.

Yesterday after I posted about my bad morning I was sitting at work all alone because it was another Icelandic holiday, the first day of Summer, and this guy walked in all dressed in popcorn...Yes, Popcorn! He had a hat made of popcorn, popcorn ring, popcorn bow tie, popcorn buttons...popcorn everything. He asked me for directions to a building on base, so I showed him where it was and then he said "You look pretty lonely in here. Do you like magic?" I was like "Yes!" So this man dressed in all popcorn introduced him self as Kernel Popcorn and then started to do a magic show for me. He made a scarf vanish and turned a $1 bill into a $100 bill right in front of my eyes. I couldn't believe it! It was a nice little break in my day to have him stop in and plus I was having that rough morning.

Just One Of Those Days...

This morning I woke up late for work so I couldn't even take a shower for work. I know that is gross and I don't even know why I am sharing that information on here. I was up at 7:30 to say good-bye to David before he went to work, but I thought I could just rest my eyes for another 30 minutes before I had to get up for work, that was a stupid idea because by the time I got up it was 10:00 and I leave at 10:45. Then when I got into the bathroom to do my hair that was a mess. I haven't had my hair cut or dyed in forever. I really only like to get it cut by Holly, but in times like this I am willing to go to the Icelandics on base, but they are only open Tuesday - Friday 11:00 - 4:30. What kind of hours are those! I wont ever be able to get my hair cut unless I take a day off. After I just threw my hair into a ponytail, I started to do my make-up and noticed that my make-up kept going into the WRINKLES in my forehead. What is up with that, it was really depressing. So I basically starred at my wrinkled for 15 - 20 minutes this morning. And something else that depresses me is that I am still breaking out! That shouldn't be happening either. Ohhhh it is tough to be a girl sometimes!

other then my rough morning nothing else has been going on around here...oh, besides really looking forward to leaving Iceland.

A Day Off

I had today off from work for Easter. The Icelandic Easter last like 4 or 5 days, it is a pretty big holiday here and since my boss is Icelandic she closed the store for today. I was excited to have the an extra long weekend and David only had to go into work for 2 hours this morning so he was home by 9:30am so we got to spend the day together. We went and got Subway for lunch and then watched the worst movie ever, "Grizzly Man." It was a documentry on this man who tried to protect the bears in Alaska, but ended up getting killed by one. He pretty much was crazy. I also got some cleaning done today since I didn't get anything done this weekend.

It is staying light out pretty much until 10:00 or so. That makes it harder to get tired to go to bed.

Nothing else new here...Miss you all!!!

Happy Easter and Happy Birthday

Today for Easter we didn't have much planned, it is also David's Birthday today so we will probably just hang around the house and relax. He bought a new video game yesterday so I am sure he will want to play that for a little bit today. I got up early this morning and put out a little easter basket for David with some of his favorite things. I hide the easter basket in the dryer, I knew that was the one place he would never look. But when I was taking it out I was so loud, I was dropping things in the dryer. I thought he was going to attack me because he thought we were being robbed. Good thing he just thought I was being nuts and wanted to do laundry...I have sort of turned into a clean freak.

Sad ofcourse we can't be with family today. But we are thinking of everyone. Easter is at my grandma's house this year. Ofcourse she will be having her annual egg hunt. And everyone brings a dish to share... I am sure my mom will bring deviled eggs...yummy! We hope everyone has a great day. We heard that the weather has been great in MN. So that is wonderful for you. The weather here can't decide if it wants to rain, snow or stay sunny out.

David, I love you and I hope you have a Wonderful Birthday today!

Happy Easter to Everyone!! We love and miss you all!!

Pottery Class

Today was my first pottery class. I thought it was boring probably because we really didn't do anything but listen and watch him show us how to use the wheel and sculpt. I wasn't to thrilled when I found out that we will be making sculptures in the class also. We have to make a face...what am I going to do with a head? And whos head am I going to sculpt? But I am excited to learn how to use the wheel. Who knows how good I will be at it. I guess they say it is really relaxing. This is a 7 week class so it will take me up to right about the time we leave, so it will give me something to do every Saturday. I will keep you updated on process.

Today I got to talk to my mom, sister and also my Grandma Bear today. It is always good to talk to family.

My 50th!

This is my 50th post and I really don't have anything interesting to write about. Well, yesterday we got our assignment to Mannheim, Germany and I guess in my last post I was a little dramatic about it. I guess when you think about where we are going and the opportunity we have gotten it will be great. I just have to think postive about the 7 months that were added onto David's tour. I guess it just gives us 7 months longer to save to build our dream house, 7 months longer to visit all the places we have always just dreamed about going to, 7 months longer for YOU ALL to come and visit us! I have always wanted to go to Frace and Italy and both those places are just a train ride away. And the summer weather is Germany is really nice, so I am really happy about that.

Like my Grandma said, "7 months is just 7 months, but our memories will last forever."

We're Going To...

GERMANY!!

I don't know how to feel about the orders we were given. I know we will have such a great time over there. We will be able to see so much and see many different countries. David already promised me we would take many trips if we got stationed there. I guess I just got my hopes up way to high for going back to the states and being so much closer to everyone. It would have been so much nicer to be a phone call away. Its so hard not being able to have family and friends call you. And have the regular shopping malls close...no one can understand unless you have lived overseas. David didn't really say much about if he had to extend for the 7 months or not...so who knows about that, but I am sure we will have to at some point. He told me that he told them he didn't want to, but since he signed the papers for Germany and that is a 3 year tour so expect us to extend. I don't want to extend at all! I just think that is 7 months longer they could deploye him, we already got lucky once. 7 months longer we could have already started to build a house. 7 months longer we could be back with our familys. By adding 7 months we still have 3 years left overseas. I was starting to look fowards to getting out, but now we are counting backwards.

I could just cry!

I know I shouldn't be complaining. This is a one in a life chance opportunity we have gotten. Everyone dreams of going to Germany and I have always wanted to go to Paris and Italy.

We had talked about it last night if we had gotten Germany we would drive there... I was thinking the same thing. Aren't we on a Island? David said we could pack our jeep as full we could with all the stuff we need right away, which would be really nice because who knows how long it is going to take for our stuff to get to our next base with this mass move. Then we drive our jeep to the other side of the island doing some site seeing on the way then get on the Ferry. Which takes you to Demark, that is about a 3 day ride. You get your own room and the Fairy is pretty nice from what we have heard so far. Then we would drive to Germany and we would have a car right away instead of waiting 3 months.

That is it for now. I will let you know when we get our date to leave.

Miss you all!

Tuesday...Maybe

Well on Tuesday the Assignment Team in coming back to Iceland to finish giving everyone who doesn't have orders there assignment. But since we might have to extent the 7 months for the Germany spot they want to give us, who knows what they will do with us. That is all I really know now. I will update you as soon as we find out anything.

I am sick today. My throat is bothering. What ever this is, it has just been going around David's work.

Surprise Party

On Friday night my friend Misty and I threw a Surprise Birthday Party for her husband, Mike, and David. Mike's birthday was on Friday night so we had just told them that us four were going out for just a little bit to celebrate because they were able to get a babysitter for there kids. We just had the party at the local club on base and invited everyone from there work. We had a private room, so that was really nice. We were able to decorate it...thanks to Misty who did all the decorating because I wasn't able to get off of work. Also we had food, cake and little gift bags for everyone. It was just like a birthday party! Both the guys were really surprised when they walked in the room and everyone yelled "Surprise!" I really thought someone would had told them, but David and Mike had no clue. David and me David with all his birthday gifts
lindsey and me with our sunglasses...they were in the gift bags we gave out

JUST 7 More Months

If you have been keeping up with David's blog you already know what information we got yesterday, but if not I will fill you in quickly. He did get an assignment, sort of...it would have been a choice between two spots in Germany, but there was a catch...he would had to extend 7 more months. Doesn't sound too long, but we are so excited to get out of the mitary life so even one day longer wasn't in our plan. David told them no way to extending the 7 more months, so now we are just waiting to see what they say about that. David took a few days off of work to try and recover from the cold he has had. He won Airman of the Year, so you get free days off for that. He called into work this morning to see if they had heard anything more, but they hadn't.

Since David had the day off we went to the BX before he brought me into work, they were having this big sale. Basically trying to get ride of everything. I bought a shirt and some candles. The store is pretty empty. The people there were pretty much just buying things just because they were on sale.

The wind is just crazy today. They have wind advisory out.

Still Waiting...

Sorry I can't inform you with an update on where we are going or when we think we will know. Some days they tell David maybe we will know in the next couple days or maybe by the end of this week or maybe by the end of next week. So who really knows when we will know. Also, we have no idea if we will be going state side or staying overseas. I guess we will know when we know. But I think we will by gone by the end of June beginning of July. So that isn't to far away.

We saw what we wanted to of this Island so we are really ready to leave. The weather is so gross about 90% of the time so you can never go out and do anything. I hate this place because it never goes above 60 degrees and I NEED the sun. And everything is way to expensive. They have really nice malls, but you can't buy anything unless you want to fork over your 2 weeks pay check for one shirt. Basically we are looking forward to our move.
